Kirkwood was laid out in 1853 as the first planned railroad suburb west of the Mississippi, a healthful retreat from the crowded city, and the retreat part still shows: generous yards, a walkable downtown around the 1893 train depot, and one of the county’s great tree canopies, a point of civic pride the city protects by ordinance. Living under all that green is wonderful for people and relentless for parked cars. Oak pollen in April, sap through the summer, sweetgum and leaf debris in fall, every season leaves its layer on a Kirkwood driveway car.
That driveway, though, is exactly where we do our best work. Sweetgums drop spiky gumballs and sticky residue, oaks add pollen and sap, and together they bond a film onto paint that washing alone will not lift. We decontaminate by hand and then seal the surface so the trees have to start from scratch.
